As a parent and an artist I began reflecting on issues of chance, opportunity and the migrant crisis. The illustrated characters in this suite of prints are meant to be self–referential. For example, I was spending entirely too much time engrossed in the quality of my lawn. I had also been fortunate to be able to spend a good bit of time with my daughter outdoors; fishing, kayaking and camping. These outings are represented through a variety of idealistic images represented in the prints. After some reflection I can’t help but feel a great sense of conflict with what continues to take place across the world with migrant families fleeing circumstances that are for most, uncontrollable to them. By pairing the “ideal” with the “real” images of what other families are dealing with I seek to confront these issues of disparity and displacement.
